The Stream: Can The Weeknd Destroy his Past & Still Be No.1?

Chart Beat: R&B sensation, The Weeknd has released a thrilling new video for his new single, Starboy, which features the electronic super duo, Daft Punk. In the video, The R&B singer otherwise known as Abel Tesfaye destroys awards and rides in a car with a black panther. In the beginning of the video, a masked man murders The Weeknd, later it is revealed the masked murderer is The Weeknd, only sporting a new haircut, symbolizing a new era in the artist's music career. According to sources, The Weeknd is developing a new character, destroying the pop sensation of what Beauty and the Madness was.  

The Toronto singer spoke about his upcoming album, Starboy dropping on November 25th on VMAN magazine saying "there are new inspirations on this album. The production feels aggressive but still sexy" the singer compares his new style of music to The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads and Prince. The Weeknd also claimed that he thinks this will be his best sounding album yet, we'll just have to see about that. 

As for the single, Starboy ,it has already made quite a name for itself on the charts climbing from No. 40 to No.3 on the Billboard's Hot 100 chart, the song debuted on the October 8th dated Hot 100 with 28,000 in sales, 2.9 million U.S streams and 36 million in airplay audience. This earns The Weeknd his fifth Hot 100 top 10.
