Liberty Exposed: Immigration Lawsuit Is What Chicago Deserves

NBC Chicago

The poor practices of the feudal government and particularly the Biden administration has negatively affected the lives of the American people more than ever before. This has culminated in an immigration crisis that has led Americans to push back against the massive influx of illegal aliens. Residents from the south shore of Chicago have filed a lawsuit against the city, Mayor Brandon Johnson, and Chicago Public Schools to stop the housing of immigrants in their schools and in police stations.

A press conference was held in October 2023, where they outlined their lawsuit and spoke to members of the communities about how the city handled an increase in illegal immigrants. They expressed their anger and frustration towards the action of the mayor and the school board for allowing them to turn their local high school into a housing unit for illegal immigrants. One of the individuals that has filed the lawsuit, Natasha Dunn, spoke out at the press conference, saying, “We are outraged by the government's response and the elected official's plain disregard for the local crises." These lawsuits are the culmination of decades of terrible governance in the city of Chicago.

Frank Avila, the attorney representing the plaintiffs, outlined the main points associated with this lawsuit is number one reopening south shore high school. The second is caring for the immigrants that are in the city. He also calls for an audit, to find where the supposed  money and resources that are supposed to be spent on helping these migrants are being allocated to. He says “After the state has spent half a billion dollars and the city of Chicago has allocated 100 million you should not have people sleeping outside in tents….. this is an outrageous amount of money and there needs to be an audit”. With the money and resources supposedly being spent on these migrants, it would be cheaper and more beneficial to deport them out of the country. While the people of Chicago are not calling for this action, it is a necessary step to dealing with this volume of illegal migration.

Since August 2022, 18,500 migrants have been moved into Chicago. Many of these immigrants have been arriving from Texas. However, this number has been a drop in the bucket compared to the influx of illegal immigrants entering the country. As of May 2023, the United States has been taking in around 10,000 illegal immigrants a day. It is clearly an unsustainable number, but not even close to the number that other states have been forced to deal with. In 2022 alone, Texas will have over 2 million illegal aliens entering the country each year.

The struggle is also the fault of Chicago, which has been proclaiming itself as a sanctuary city for 38 years. Now, when they are asked to live up to these words, there is hysteria. Complaining that they are having to deal with the consequences of the poor policy. It is easy to push for a policy that fits the leftist agenda when you or your city don’t have to suffer from any of the consequences. In the press conference, one speaker proclaimed, “Chicago is not a sanctuary city; it's a business masquerading as a safe harbor for new asylum seekers.” The people clearly do not want this label placed on their city, as it messes with their economic opportunity and takes them away from the police.

There is a strange divide between the people of Chicago, where some are proposing left-wing policies and the other half are willing to blame poor democratic leadership. Some of the recommended solutions by the speakers were to put the immigrants in residential housing. This, too, is a terrible idea. Another resident Marjani Williams stated, “This is about equity,” during her speech. On the other hand, members of the crowd were shouting during many of the talks, calling for the deportation of the illegal immigrants. Another was blaming the Democrats for their years of terrible governance. A mixed bag of perspectives At the very least, one could agree that the overtaking of their local high school and cutting their extracurricular activities for non-American citizens is unfair to the people living in this community. These people have legitimate concerns. Education, quality schools, and recreational activities are all extremely important aspects of a productive and safe community, but the liberal policy of Mayor Brandon Johnson has led to very poorly managed cities. Finding this common ground is at least a step in the right direction.

This panic started when states began shipping illegal immigrants to these locations, which is a genius strategic move. For the longest time, these states did not have to deal with the cause-and-effect of the policies they pushed, particularly those involving immigration. It has normally been states like Arizona, Texas, and Florida that bear the burden of the decisions made by the federal government's refusal to huddle the massive wave of illegal immigrants entering the country. Republicans should continue to send their illegal aliens and asylum seekers to these states that have been saying for years that they are welcome. Continue to be with this massive influx of people until the mayors of these cities start putting pressure on their representatives and senate to work to reform the immigration caress plaguing the United States.

A similar situation occurred in Martha’s Vineyard when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sent around 50 illegal aliens. This tiny action caused mass hysteria in the city and the news media. The immigration crisis cannot be blamed on Chicago but instead on the federal government. Under Joe Biden's administration, the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States has skyrocketed. In the few years that Joe Biden has been president, 3.8 million illegal immigrants have entered the country.

The people of Chicago and their lawsuit against the mayor and city are an amazing example of how the terrible practices of the left create major harm and cause problems for the people subjected to them. Being forced to travel to send children to school while their local campus is being used to house individuals that have illegally entered the country is a destruction of the social fabric that the American people should have with their local government. Hopefully, these actions will pressure the mayor to step forward and actually help the people that he was elected to serve.
