Millennial Money: Living On $175K A Year In NYC & Georgia
Brieonna Johnson, 29, earns $175,000 a year as a full-time nanny for two families, one in New York City and one in Atlanta, Georgia.
Her time between is split between two weeks. One week is spent in New York City and the next week is spent in Atlanta.
One major lesson she learned with her income is planning a budget.
“Its critical if you don’t know where your money is going,” she said.
Her current monthly spending is $8,234 per month, and half of that goes to pay off her $4,000 of credit debt and $11,000 of student loans.
Johnson worked as a part-time nanny in college while she was going for her teacher degree. However, due to the very low income she would make, she looked into nanny agencies as a way to pay off her student loans.
“It was like a whole new world opened up where I discovered, like, nannies could get paid benefits, and full-time hours, and guaranteed hours,” she said.
Looking toward the future, she hopes to remain in the field for another ten years and settle down for an early retirement.
