Millennial Money: Living In A $2,000/Month Apartment In Pittsburgh, PA

Ben Boxer, 21, lives with two roommates in a 2-bed apartment in Pittsburgh, PA. He and his roommates pay a total of $2000 a month in rent.

They were looking for an apartment to live in for their senior year of college. They wanted to find an apartment that was bigger than the college’s dorm space, but also cheaper to live in.

All their money that they use comes from savings from the previous summer. To make sure that they don’t spend all the money, they budget. Although, he admits it is a very challenging thing to do while in college.

“Me and my roommates have all set monthly budgets for ourselves when it comes to eating out” (2:29)

This allows them to track their spending and encourages them to eat out less. Their biggest goal is to make sure that they have a financially stable situation so they can continue to live in the apartment.

When looking ahead towards the future, Boxer says that he and his roommates will all be graduating in the spring. Once they graduate, their lease will be up and they will all move out. He believes that he may not see them again after graduation.

Until then, he wants to cherish his time with his friends.
