Millennial Money: Making $100K+ A Year Playing Chess On Twitch

Alexandra Botez, 25, is a professional chess player who makes six figures per year livestreaming chess on Twitch.

Botez currently lives in Austin, Texas, but her family came from Romania, which is a country that has a very rich chess culture. She learned chess from her dad and won a national tournament at six years old.

As a full-time Twitch streamer, twenty to thirty percent of her income comes directly from her audience.

“We also have ad revenue from different social platforms, and in the future we’re going to be releasing merchandise,” she said.

She is looking at developing new skills in chess in order to grow her audience. She hopes that this will attract both the average viewer and casual chess players.

By the end of 2021, she hopes to be in the mid-six figures due to her multiple avenues of income.
